Features
What CheeTag is meant to do — from taking stock to the playlist on your phone.
Capture
- Read the collection recursively: format, bitrate, length, existing tags, embedded cover.
- A checksum over the pure audio data — so the same music with different tags counts as the same.
- Repeat runs only read what is new or changed.
- Unreadable files are reported instead of skipped, with the reason.
Identify
- An acoustic fingerprint per track, matched through AcoustID.
- Files are grouped into albums and held against MusicBrainz releases — with a match score per candidate.
- Without a fingerprint: a search over existing tags and file names.

Review and apply
- A workbench showing before and after per album, with the candidate switchable.
- Covers from the Cover Art Archive, chosen by hand where needed.
- Consistent naming following a scheme you set.
- A journal with undo: every change stays traceable.
Tidy up
- Duplicates: exact copies through the checksum, the same recording in another quality through the MusicBrainz id.
- Dissolving compilations: a track from a collection ends up with its own artist and album — the collection survives as a playlist in its original order.
Listen
- Views by album, artist, genre and year, fluid even with many thousand tracks.
- Playlists in seconds, plus rules for smart ones.
- Lyrics to sing along to, where they are freely available.
- A way onto the phone through Navidrome.
